Privacy Policy

Gurukul is a school management app. This page explains what information we collect through the app, why, and how it's used — in plain language, not legal boilerplate.

Who this applies to

Gurukul is used by schools that choose to adopt it. If your school uses Gurukul, this policy covers principals/admins, teachers, students, and parents using the app under that school's account.

What we collect

• Account info — name, role, username, and contact details (phone/email) provided at registration, or basic profile info from Google if you sign in with Google.
• School records — attendance, fee dues and payments, report cards, class/section assignments, and payroll records for staff, entered by your school's staff.
• Location (self check-in only) — if a teacher uses "Mark My Attendance," we use their device's location once, at the moment they check in, to confirm they're on school premises. We don't track location otherwise.
• Messages and calls — chat messages, file/image attachments, and video call metadata (who called whom, when) between users at the same school.
• Usage data — basic app activity (e.g. gamification XP/streaks) tied to your account within your school.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data to anyone.
• We don't show ads or use your data for advertising.
• We don't share your school's data with other schools using Gurukul.

Who can see what

Access is scoped by role, enforced by the app and the school's admin:

• Students see their own records, their classmates/teachers, and their class's public info.
• Parents see only the records of their own linked children.
• Teachers see records for the classes and students they teach.
• Principals/admins have full visibility within their own school only.

Where data is stored

Data is stored on our servers and, for chat/photo attachments, on secure cloud storage (AWS). Data for one school is not accessible to another school.

Google Sign-In

If you choose to sign in or register with Google, we receive your name and email from Google to create or verify your account. We don't request access to your Gmail, Drive, or other Google data.

Your choices

You can ask your school's admin to correct or remove your information at any time. If you'd rather not use Google Sign-In, every account type also supports a regular username and password.
